Here's the striking artwork for the new Time and Space Machine single 'Pill Party In India', due for release on Tirk at the end of January. The single comes backed with Psychemagik and Mojo Filter mixes. It's the first release from the forthcoming second album 'Taste The Lazer', which will be released in early Spring. The Time and Space Machine are also gearing up the five piece live band for gigs and festivals in 2012 - watch this space....

On the Grid

I really enjoyed Tron. Saw it at the weekend at a preview and wasn't at all disappointed. I suppose it helps that the first words in the movie were 'The Grid' and it's about someone who has been living in the Grid for 20 years - I can empathize!

I'm not sure if the Grid (the band...) were directly influenced by the original Tron; I can't remember thinking about Tron when we named the band. We had two names we were thinking of using. We were either going to be called the Grid or...the Matrix! Damn that pre-cognition...

Anyway see Tron in the best movie house you can find, IMAX preferably, and dive in. It's pure techno.

Expect a flurry of new mixes for the Grid's 'Floatation' and the Time and Space Machine's 'Set Phazer To Sun' before the summer is out.

The Grid 'Floatation' mixes are by Prins Thomas, Slof Man and Round Table Knights, and are of the downtempo/cosmic disco, dubstep and house variety, backed with a new version of the tune by The Grid. Out in August on New State.

The Time and Space Machine 'Set Phazer To Stun' mixes are by Bottin and Sioux City Boys Club, backed with a new, extended Time and Space Machine mix. Out on Tirk late summer.

Life In Asia

Being driven round Milan at high speed last year, I was somewhat soothed by the FM radio show that was blaring out late that Friday night. The show was called 'Life In Asia', on Lifegate radio, and was hosted by Italian actress and director Asia Argento. Asia's selections were spot on, and her beguiling voice drew me in to a world that is totally her own. I found links to many of the shows here; there's a lot of themed stuff (music for films, Elvis) and a few guests (Ladytron); it's always interesting at the very least, and is sometimes totally mesmerising radio.I was even going to ask her to record some spoken word passages for the new Time and Space Machine album, but didn't get round to it. Maybe next time...

Don't know if you've seen this, but Galactic Ramble is one hell of a reference book for late 60's/early 70's UK vinyl spotters. Over 3000 albums are reviewed, alongside NME, Melody Maker etc reviews from when the albums came out. It's a classy piece of work, with a wide range of UK albums covered, from the rarest Vertigo swirl to the most out-there freakbeat and acid folk, plus all the big names fully covered as well. Many previously looked over works are re-appraised (second Mighty Baby album anyone?) and some rare-as-hen's-teeth albums are given their true worth (ie heavily overvalued). Great reviews, top tens, colour sections, vintage adverts and the like. Pure joy for the bespoke vinyl lover. More about this excellent work, which is priced at £30, here.

Had a great time in Istanbul, thanks to everyone involved at undomondo for sorting out the trip. Had great fun hanging out with some great DJs/bloggers/promoters, including the great Turk/funk/psych DJ Baris K. Check out his Beats In Space mix here and watch out for his edits coming on vinyl.... I was also introduced to this guy on the link here - check him out! Apparently he things nothing of playing all night, at an intensity level shown in the video. I mean, look at that AK47 guitar! Apparently if we all shout loud enough he'll come and play in England, so is anyone up for it?? Let's start a campaign... (PS I can't embed this on the blog as Youtube is banned in Turkey and the link has been disabled. Either it's that or I'm a dumbass who can't work his computer properly...)

Here's another psych video for you - a trailer for 1968 film The Touchables, with soundtrack by 'Rainbow Chaser' phaze and strings legends Nirvana. Quite hard to get hold of, and the plot is 'thinner than a paper towel' according to a review on Imdb, but great plastic space bubble nonetheless.

All Aboard For Fantasy Island

I started a new monthly Balearic club in October called Fantasy Island. The club is at the ace Spanish restaurant and bar Camino in the Regent's Quarter in King's Cross, London, a stones throw from the Scala cinema where I used to hang out and watch all night psychedelic B-movies as a teenager. It's got a massive bar, restaurant and courtyard, and gets busy from 8pm when we start.

Last month kicked off with Cream/Space resident Andy Carroll guesting. This month's guests, on Friday 27th November, are Reverso 68, Pete Herbert and Phil Mison, famed for their top class white isle beats.

The club is on the last Friday of the month until March, including a big New Year's Eve party with Cosmo and Latin Dub Soundsystem. I've compiled a Fantasy Island CD compilation too, which is available free on the night to the first 100 guests, and includes A Mountain Of One, Coyote, Reverso 68, Deadstock 33's, Space and many more. I'm currently working on a couple of Fantasy Island podcasts, too, which I'll post here shortly.

Come on down from 8pm - 2am. The food is great, the beats 100% Balearic and the night is totally free to get in.
